Fourth Body Recovered in Baltimore Bridge Collapse

02:51 16.04.2024

The tragic incident that occurred near the port of Baltimore in March has taken another devastating turn as authorities recovered the body of a fourth victim from the collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge. The victim, whose identity has not been released at the request of the family, was found trapped inside a construction vehicle at the site of the disaster. This brings the total number of confirmed fatalities to four, with three other men previously recovered.

The construction workers were part of a team that fell into the icy waters of the Patapsco River when the Dali cargo ship crashed into the bridge on March 26, causing it to collapse. The bodies of Maynor Suazo Sandoval, Dorlian Castillo Cabrera, and Alejandro Hernandez Fuentes were recovered earlier, leaving two workers still missing.

The recovery operation has been a harrowing process for the families of the victims, with Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott expressing condolences and solidarity with them. Governor Wes Moore also extended his sympathies, acknowledging the dedication of the workers to their profession and the impact they had on the community.

In a significant development, the FBI has opened a criminal investigation into the cargo ship, with agents boarding the vessel to conduct law enforcement activity. The focus of the inquiry includes determining if the crew had prior knowledge of potential mechanical issues and the events leading up to the ship's departure from port on the day of the tragedy.

As authorities continue their recovery efforts and investigations, the community mourns the lives lost in this tragic accident and hopes for closure for the families of the remaining missing workers. The National Transportation Safety Board is also conducting a separate inquiry into the collision, with a preliminary report expected in the coming weeks.
